With its five members Afterdark have been taking the scene by storm over the last four years. Founding members Phazeman, Shy/Itchy Robot, Dicey and Skeeze were responsible for the groups first release, Slaughter Chamber, on Urban Graffiti Records which was signed back in 2005. After hearing this track and wanting in on the action Toxin became the final member of this forward thinking, big bass making collective of producers and DJ’s. Although members of the group have enjoyed success as solo producers and come from a broad background of musical genres including Drum and Bass, Garage and Indie it is as Afterdark that the group are enjoying new found success and attracting a new legion of fans.

Each of Afterdark's three producers has their own style for which they are known, from Toxin’s dark, twisted bass lines to Phazeman’s sinister, epic leads and Shy/Itchy Robot’s big impact dance floor fillers. Merging together influences such as Garage, Reggae and Dub, Drum and Bass, Electro as well as Heavy Metal it is inevitable that Afterdark’s collection of fresh sounds is bring something new and vibrant to the Dubstep scene.

Their release schedule is growing rapidly, with no less than fifteen releases in the pipe line, and their tracks have been receiving support from the biggest names in the Dubstep scene including Skream, N Type, Benga, Hatcha and many, many more, over recent years. The continued progression of their sound as well as the launch of their own labels later this year make Afterdark a talked about name in the Dubstep scene.

In between their hectic production commitments Afterdark also maintain busy gig schedule through out the UK and Europe and with a tour in America planned for 2009 the group seem set to continue tearing up dance floors across the world with their trade mark sounds.

DASH EXP

Dash: a mark of punctuation, creating a rythmic language between seemingly disparate forms- Dash is an artist of connections and manipulations in jungle/drum & bass, dustep, house/2-step, and hip-hop.  His main influences are the musique concrete movement of the 1940s and 50's, lead by Shaeffer and Stockhausen; Nine Inch Nails; early American Grunge and various experimental media artists like Gary Hill, Vito Acconci and Jack Smith.

A native New Yorker, Dash EXP currently resides in Seattle, where he founded the city's chapter of Konkrete Jungle, US statesides original jungle dance party. He also consistently plays at some of the longest running nights in the country, including the notorious D&B Tuesdays in Seattle, and Konkrete Jungle NYC.

Studying at Alfred University in NY (BFA), he began hosting a weekly radio show called “Beats Dimes & Life” on WALF 89.7 FM.  It was here that Dash defined himself as a CUT above the competition by being the first DJ in the stations history to mix live on air. Refusing to slow down, Dash established the “Kum Curek Productions” crew, and began to host parties to expose western NY to the underground Jungle/DnB sound.
He is currently continuing his radio transmission, with regular appearances on DNBTV.com, Global Vortex Radio, and Seattle's Vortex 89.5FM.  You'll also catch Dash sharing the bill regularly for industry heavy hitters like R.A.W., Reid Speed, Dara, DJ ODI, Armin Van Buren and Darude to name a few.

Ongoing projects include production on various Stateside dubstep labels and a recent side project, ThunderBolt LightningStorm, heavily influenced by Mashup, Electro & Baltimore club music. He has also redirected his production interest to drum & bass/jungle and has a slew of fresh production to see the light of day in the upcoming year.

For as long as I can remember music has been a big part of my life, and I have bounced from one genre to the next!
As a young boy, I was into trance, and couldn’t get enough of the raving scene, but when I hit my later teens, garage vibes enticed me into wanting to become a DJ. I started playing around and doing my own mixes, by 15 I had discovered and fallen hard for the DNB music scene. Mampi Swift’s Jaws, was the first record I bought and from then on I knew DNB music would change my life!
From then on it was all about playing to as many people I could, I wanting them to get the same buzz and enjoyment I felt when Djing. I got noticed by my local pirate DNB Station in Southampton Wispa FM. I stayed on this for a few years, trying to break the DNB scene, but things weren’t happening so took a time out and concentrated on family life.
Music is in my veins, so wasn’t long till I had to get back to what I loved; I got a weekly slot at my local DNB club The Rhino club. Also I put on my own nights around Southampton; this is where things started to look up. I was getting a fan base and recognition in the industry. People liked my technique on the decks, and my nights were bringing in a good crowd.
I love to DJ, but was getting restless and wanted to start producing my own stuff. It was tough and couldn’t break through. I was stuck in a rut and felt Southampton had given me all it could offer on the DNB scene. It was time for a change! I moved to London to be with my lady, and this was great as it reopened my energy to want to succeed and really make a life for us.
I managed to get a weekly slot on the top DNB station in London ORIGIN FM; I also put on a night at Mass in Brixton, Herbal. This was not enough I still wanted to prove I had a lot to give, so started producing again but this time with DUBSTEP. This was a big change from what I was used to, but if anything my life had shown me that music is music and if you want it is achievable! My first two tunes I TEL U WAT TO PLAY/ DONT FUCK TONY were signed straight away, by dirty circuit records. Which has been a huge confidence boost? Now I am working with a few other record companies, Bass punch records, Filthy digital, Dub Frequency and Stupid Fly.
Thing are looking up, so watch this space for more from Kirkus...

Musics always been a big part of my life, one of my earliest memories is sitting at home whilst my dad played some original studio one vinyl. as my dad is very into roots regggae, that is a huge  influence in the music i make. I started producing grime in 2006, but that didn't seem to be getting me anywhere, so was looking for a new genre to move onto, and then along came dubstep. since 2008 i've been producing dubstep on FL8 with the local movement im in, named JAM Ent. Now im producing as much as i can and i hope to just keep doing what im doing at the moment.

PHYSICAL

Ivo Suchett-Kaye

Featured on: SFLYD005
http://www.myspace.com/physicaltactics

Physical started out making tunes a good few years ago, initially concentrating on breaks and drum & bass. A while back he decided that he wanted to pursue a new direction, and started making dubstep, which he was drawn to due to his love of super-low bass lines and wide versatility in style and soundscape. Focusing on creating huge nasty synths and rolling percussive beats, and obviously ridiculous chest-rattling sub bass, he got to work. After only a few months in the scene, his tunes are getting snapped up by labels and played on radio stations such as DubstepFM and SubFM, as well as in DJ sets around the world. His influences in production range from drum & bass, breaks and electro through to techno, and anything he hears and likes, and bits of these influences can be heard all his tunes. He has also been DJing for about 5 years now, playing this year all over England including the legendary Fabric in London, and supporting DJs such as N-Type and Dillinja

RICHIE AUGUST

Featured on: SFLYD008

Richie August is the master of violent and intoxicating dubstep. His career started in 1998 as a DJ oscillating between hip hop and drum and bass. In 2000, he extended his talents to production and brought his own sharp artistry to crafting examples of both genres. The next seven years were spent working with hip hop artist Skope the Lyrical MC, until August was exposed to Dubstep in 2008. Dubstep is the perfect outlet for August's razor like approach to electronic music. Taking cues from American pop culture, and focusing on what is already implicitly vicious, August creates a disconcerting ambience fuelled by malevolent leads and earthquake bass. To cut an accurate cross section of contemporary fears and obsessions, you must need a very sharp knife. August therefore slices and samples everything from Cheers to Tarantino movies, then lets the outward aggression and commentary get tugged underground through the seismic rhythms of Dubstep. The effect is like raving in quicksand: the harder your response, the more it sucks you in.
